We all hear about Pilates nowadays, especially since most of the stars at Hollywood seem to love this method, and because it became a trend during late years to perform it for your overall well-being. Yet, that does not mean that it is just a simple way of exercising. Remember all the fuss that was made around yoga? You may see that nowadays all the craze that was back then has diminished a lot and it is not as important anymore, and not as "trendy" as some people may consider it. Well, as complex as yoga is, Pilates is even more in some cases.

Pilates is an exercising method (and not only) invented somewhere in the early 1900s by a German nationalist called Joseph Pilates. Now, the story says that he was a rather frail child suffering from many diseases some of them being asthma and rheumatism. During World War I he was considered to be an enemy and was detained with other Germans in an English detention center where he used bedsprings to exercise. There, he developed this completely new method, and taught his detained colleagues as well. Those used bedsprings inspired him later to make an exercise machine that is now almost indispensable in Pilates performing - the Pilates reformer.

Joseph thought about the technique for many years when he was in training as a child, and he developed later some sort of a low intensity workout that proved to be more efficient than any other, and the great part about it was that anyone in any condition is able to perform it with no troubles at all. And because of its low energy requirements, it has been successful for people from all walks of life and it has also proven its great valences. Of course, when we are discussing about the Pilates reformer what you should know is that it is just one of the many types of equipment with the fair difference that it is the most popular one of all, most of the time for its economic size and its simplicity.

Performing Pilates on the mat is the ideal thing to do, but before starting with the hard stuff everybody has to go through the less tiring methods, one of these being the Pilates reformer. However, this does not mean that you should go ahead, buy one, and start exercising on it based on a video because it is not at all recommended. Actually, it is not recommended at all to perform any kind of Pilates without discussing with a certified instructor at first, or even attending a few classes and just afterwards going on your own. The reason for this is that you need to be aware of the possible injuries you may develop if you perform wrongly the technique. Find out more at http://www.instructionstopilates.com

You see, from all the equipment and all the Pilates machineries, the reformer is the most effective one because it actually does that to your body - it reforms it. In addition, because of this, it is important to be very careful not to harm yourself.
